The Delaware Casino Harrington Raceway is closing because of unknown technical problems.

A casino in Delaware has been closed for almost 48 hours because of technical problems that aren’t clear.

Malware affects computers at the Harrington Raceway Casino in Delaware.

The Harrington Raceway and Casino shut down without any warning on Tuesday. Guests who showed up were turned away, and the casino just said that it was closed because of a technical problem.

Closed for now because of technical problems. “Please call or check social media for updates,” says a message on the website for the Harrington Raceway and Casino.

But the property’s social media hasn’t given us much information. When people called the casino, their calls went to a voicemail that told scheduled workers to stay ready.

The casino did say earlier today on Facebook that Harrington won’t be back in business until at least December 29. No one knows if the tech problem was caused on purpose by hackers or was just a problem that no one saw coming.

There are three casinos in Delaware: Harrington, Bally’s Dover, and Delaware Park. The Harrington Casino is on the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, about 20 miles south of the state’s capital, Dover.

Some events have been canceled, while others are still on the schedule.

Since no one knows when Harrington might reopen, many people are wondering if the casino’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will still happen. Harrington’s annual New Year’s Eve dance party is set to start at 9:30 p.m. EST on December 31.

The New Year’s party costs $20 per person and includes live music from the Central City Orchestra, which is a 10-piece group that plays at weddings, corporate parties, and other special events. There will also be party favors and a champagne toast at midnight at the Harrington gala.

The tech problem in Harrington might not cancel New Year’s, but it has already messed up the casino’s plans for a week-long Year End Sweeps Kiosk Game & Drawing. Harrington has been letting people know about the $300,000 contest that was supposed to run from December 26 to December 30.

During the sweepstakes period, rewards players who went to the casino every day would have a chance to spin a wheel. Some of the prizes were going to be free slot play credits worth between $10 and $500. Some plays would also get players into the $300,000 final spin at the end of the year.

Casino Vulnerability

Online fraudsters target casinos most often. For years, hackers have tried to penetrate casinos’ private computer networks to collect client data.

The FBI Cyber Crime Division warned tribal casinos last year that hackers would target their IT systems. Commercial casinos like Harrington are at risk.

The richest gaming area in the world, the Nevada Gaming Commission, has implemented new cybersecurity measures to secure casino data. Most of the state’s 300 licensed gaming facilities must now frequently examine their cybersecurity defenses and report back.

“It is critically important that casino operators take all the proper precautions to secure and defend their information systems,” the Nevada Gaming Control Board told the Gaming Commission in September when recommending the new cybersecurity protocols.
