Harrington Raceway and Casino reopens, but they don’t say anything about the recent tech problems.

The Harrington Raceway and Casino in Delaware reopened just in time for the New Year’s Eve celebrations on Saturday. But other than that, the property owned by the Delaware State Fair is keeping quiet about the technical problems that shut down the racino last week.

Harrington shut down all of a sudden on Tuesday, December 27. The harness racetrack and casino said on social media that it had closed because of “technical difficulties” that were not explained.

No other information was given, and for customers, the most important thing was whether or not their personal information had been stolen. The casino was closed for more than three days, and the public didn’t know much about what was going on. It reopened at 10 a.m. EST on December 31.

On Harrington’s social media, there was a message that said, “Thank you for your patience.” “The New Year’s Eve celebrations will go on as planned.”

The casino said that free play and other perks that ran out at the end of 2022 will still be honored until Jan. 31.

Anger from Customers

Harrington Raceway & Casino is one of Delaware’s three casinos that are open to the public. There are about 1,400 slot machines, 30 table games, and a 100-seat poker room on the gaming floor. The Delaware Sports Lottery also lets people bet on sports in Harrington.

The racino earned $99 million from slots and $10.4 million from table games in 2021.

Harrington’s secrecy about its tech issues has angered some customers. Casinos are easy targets for hackers, so many individuals worry their credit card, social security, or other private information was stolen.

“Harrington has done a terrible job with this,” said Facebook user Carolina H. “This page hasn’t even said anything about it in days, and it has very little information.”

“They need to tell the players how bad things are for us. And if someone got into our information,” Angela D. wrote on the Harrington Facebook page.

“I’m not shocked. “Security experts can’t keep up with how good these hackers are getting at hacking,” said Robin M., who claims to have worked in cybersecurity.

Ongoing Issues

Harrington reopened before New Year’s Eve, but there were still problems when people went there over the weekend. People who liked the casino on Facebook said that some machines didn’t read their Players Club cards correctly.

Granny R., a “Top Fan” of Harrington on Facebook, said, “I went on Saturday, but I couldn’t use my comp dollars.” “I did not do this.”

Suzi N. also couldn’t use her Players Club card on Saturday, she said. Kelly H. said that during the holiday weekend, none of the casino’s ATMs or kiosks for redeeming vouchers worked right.
