Ex-Raiders employee sues the team for discrimination

On Tuesday, a former Las Vegas Raiders employee sued the team in federal court for discrimination, according to the Review-Journal. Nicole Brown-Adams, the NFL’s human resources coordinator, was fired in November 2020.

Brown-Adams complained to the EOC after being fired. Because she is African American, the Raiders mistreated her. The R-J reported that she was fired for complaining that the team paid her less and treated her differently due to her race.

Nicole Brown-Adams is a:

“As a direct and proximate effect of defendant’s retaliation against plaintiff, she has suffered and will continue to suffer economic damages and non-economic damages, such as anxiety, embarrassment, and mental anguish,” the lawsuit states.

May 2016 Raiders hired Brown-Adams. On LinkedIn, she managed talent acquisition, employee engagement, learning and development, and “implementing diversity and inclusion best practices and making sure compliance with labor legislation.”

According to her lawsuit, Brown-Adams informed team management in August 2020 that female lawyers were paid less than male counsel.

After Brown-Adams filed her lawsuit, the Raiders “fabricated” a complaint alleging that she improperly spoke to an independent organization that conducts background checks on new hires.

“She went above her authority when she talked to the vendor,” the team sued.

Brown-Adams told the R-J that her employer yelled at her for questioning wage discrepancies. The newspaper also reported her sexual harassment complaint. After telling management, she was allowed to work. Work clothes bothered her.

The First One

In June 2022, the R-J reported that former female Raiders employees complained of harassment, discrimination, and forced demotion. Since 2013, 10 former NFL employees have sued the team for unfair treatment. Since 2021, 10 Raiders executives have left, including longtime president Marc Badain and head coach Jon Gruden, who resigned in October 2021 after racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQ emails were found.

“Eventually, I’ll have something to say about this,” Raiders owner Mark Davis stated on June 21.
